Making the move: From South Africa to EY Ireland
Moving to EY Ireland was one of the best life decisions I have made!
I joined the EY Ireland Limerick office on 29 January 2018 as an Audit Senior. My husband and I moved here from South Africa, and we have not looked back.
The decision to move to EY was made very easy as I had only ever heard good things from the people I already knew who were working in EY Ireland, mainly that they take great care of their employees. Since joining, I can full heartedly agree that this is true. When I arrived in Limerick I immediately felt part of the office family. Everyone was so eager to assist and give me advice to help me settle in.
The EY Immigration and New Joiner teams made the move here very easy. Finding accommodation within two weeks of arrival is a bit of a challenge, but receiving an advance on my salary helped a lot, especially when it came to having to pay a deposit and first month’s rent up front.
I love how connected EY Ireland is with the rest of the EY offices across the globe. Everything is online, live and keeping up with technology. EY is also focussed on keeping up with the times and ensuring their employees keep growing and learning. The training programmes they provide keep me up to date with all relevant laws, standards and policies to ensure I am equipped with the appropriate resources to do my job. It also doesn’t hurt that the Limerick office is overlooking a beautiful river!
Work life balance in Ireland is great. I also feel safe wherever I go. The internet is amazing, the variety and quality in supermarkets is mind blowing, the postal service actually works and people actively clean up the city every day and recycle.
When we moved to Ireland we ordered biltong (Biltong is a form of dried, cured meat that originated in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.) from the UK and it was better than what we ever had back home! I would recommend the move to anyone, any day, every day…
