What EY looks for in a candidate for Infrastructure & Government

The Government & Infrastructure (G&I) unit is a new service line in EY’s Dublin office and sits within Transaction Advisory Services.

Its primary focus is on large scale public and private sector capital projects across transport, utilities, telecommunications, energy, health, education, justice, environment and housing, and any other sector that requires large and complex capital investment, typically with a long term funding requirement.

Networking

As a start-up business, there is particular emphasis on business development and so the team consists of candidates that are well networked into both the private and public sector infrastructure market.

Range of backgrounds and experience

In terms of candidate’s background, the current team’s background is diverse and includes:

  • Big 4
  • Banking
  • Government
  • Industry

These varied backgrounds means we have complementary networks and skills and thus have access to, or can get access to, the key players in the market.

Skills

In addition to market awareness, candidates that have project delivery experience is beneficial, with the current team having deal experience running into many billions of euro by value.

Given the complex nature of infrastructure projects, EY is looking for candidates that have top class commercial, financial, contractual and negotiation skills. This is particularly important given projects are typically delivered in a public procurement environment with counter parties that often comprise highly experience international consortia of sponsors, financiers and construction contractors.

Summary

As a new business with growth plans, G&I is suitable for commercially aware candidates with an interest delivering large capital projects and an ability to operate in a complex and challenging multidisciplinary environment.
